A leading figure representing the Third Sector across Coventry has been named as the new chair of the Coventry Partnership. Steve Banbury has been the Chief Executive of Voluntary Action Coventry since December 2004. He takes over from Cllr Ken Taylor, leader of Coventry City Council.
The Coventry Partnership is the city's Local Strategic Partnership and brings together the public, private, community and voluntary sectors with the aim of improving the quality of life for people living in Coventry as well as enhancing the delivery of public services. The position of chair of the Coventry Partnership rotates on a yearly basis between the public, private and voluntary sectors.
Steve said, "I'm looking forward to Chairing The Coventry Partnership at a particularly challenging time. We recognise that its strength has been in the network of positive relationships it has generated between the public, private and third sectors. The evidence from our recent response to the recession demonstrates there is an appetite to work together in the city, provide high quality leadership and influence, use our collective strengths to identify solutions and apply them in co-ordinated action.
Voluntary Action Coventry’s member organisations have been telling me that they are ready for a new era in the role they play in the city. My aspiration for 2009/10 is for a strong and purposeful Partnership, enhanced by a high profile, determined third sector to deliver real change to the city of Coventry."
Steve has been a member of The Coventry Partnership Board since January 2005. His previous post was as Chief Officer of Voluntary Action South Leicestershire. Steve has nearly 28 years experience working in or with the third sector. After leaving university he began his career in London mainly in youth and community development work before moving to Leicester into his first management role in the third sector in 1987. His next move took him into the public sector, spending thirteen years as a manager with local authorities in Leicester and Staffordshire.
