    How Coventry is winning the war on drugs

    An exhibition of photos by some of the city's drug users are being featured as part of Coventry's Tackling Drugs Week in the city centre.

    Two important new drug services will be launched this month to help tackle addiction in Coventry. Coventry's new 'recovery' service will help many more addicts become and remain clean from drink and drugs and offer more help for parents or carers of drug users.

    Members of The Coventry Partnership will be on hand at a stall and balloon release in Coventry city centre on Saturday, May 16, to raise awareness of homophobia and trans-phobia. Seventy-five balloons will be released at mid-day from Broadgate to represent the number of countries where it's still a criminal offence to be gay, lesbian or bisexual or where people are punished or imprisoned because of their sexuality, along with a further 7 to represent those countries where homosexuality is punishable by death.

    A leading figure representing the Third Sector across Coventry has been named as the new chair of the Coventry Partnership. Steve Banbury has been the Chief Executive of Voluntary Action Coventry since December 2004. He takes over from Cllr Ken Taylor, leader of Coventry City Council.
