Older people's Partnership

The Older Peoples Partnership works to achieve positive outcomes for the older population in Coventry including:

• Health and wellbeing into old age

• Inclusion and equality throughout life

• Freedom from discrimination and harassment in older age

• Economic wellbeing

• Exercising choice and control throughout life

Promoting healthy ageing is a priority for the Partnership and this is the basis for the services that are being commissioned, for example:

• A falls prevention service that supports people who are at risk and offers various types of help including assessment, training to improve strength and balance and longer term opportunities to increase flexibility, posture and confidence.

• Support that increases social inclusion for people who are at risk of becoming isolated through schemes such as befriending.

• A single contact point for older people who may need a range of advice, information and support such as help with housing repairs, advice on benefits or home safety improvements.

• Information and advice on how to stay healthy, for example through a widely available booklet.

The Partnership recognises the vital role played by carers, who are often older people. Support is provided to give carers a break from caring, to signpost them to relevant services and help them look after their own health and wellbeing.

Older people from Coventry are involved in the work of the Partnership in several ways including:

• Through membership of reference groups that feed their views into service plans.
• Having older people as members of selection panels for important jobs within the Partnership.
• Asking people who use services and wider groups for their views on current services and future needs.
