Many thanks to everyone who has taken part. Coventry- The Next 20 Years is now available to download.
What is the Sustainable Community Strategy and why do we need one?
The government has declared its ambition to create strong, safe and prosperous communities throughout England but has recognised that every town and city is different with distinctive strengths and needs. The objective of a Sustainable Community Strategy is to improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of an area, and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development in the UK.
The development of a Sustainable Community Strategy for Coventry is a government requirement. In Coventry this strategy will be called Coventry - the next 20 years.
Coventry – the next 20 years will become the overarching strategy for promoting and improving the well-being of the city and will be based firmly on Coventry’s needs. As well as setting out a long-term vision, the new strategy will also identify the short-term priorities for the city.
Key organisations – such as Coventry City Council, West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service, Job Centre Plus, the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Small Businesses, Coventry Primary Care Trust, the Community Empowerment Network and Coventry Voluntary Services Council – have already been invited to review the findings from an initial strategic assessment of the city and have helped develop Coventry’s Draft Sustainable Community Strategy.

Yes. There is a long history of partnership working in Coventry. The Coventry Partnership currently works to deliver the priorities within the existing Coventry Community Plan, entitled “Raising Our Game, Closing the Gap” which was adopted in July 2004.
The existing Community Plan was informed by extensive consultation with Coventry people. The Community Plan has been used as a basis for Coventry - the next 20 years.
